Professional Development Activity Details

Loess Hills Prairie Seminar - The Loess Hills and Iowa - Past and Present

The Loess Hills Prairie Seminar is a weekend exploration of the natural history of the Loess Hills and prairie through multi-and inter-disciplinary activities in the content and techniques of science, environmental and conservation education, outdoor education, visual arts, writing, and problem solving. Educators may select from many different field sessions those that they will be able to adapt for use with their students. The focus of the class is to gain an appreciation for the Loess Hills and prairie and to learn ways to enrich instruction using new experiences and approaches that will help to reach a diverse student body. Indoor speakers enhance the knowledge base about the Loess Hills and prairie and increase the understanding of current issues and the past. Some note-taking will help meet the course requirements, along with some reflection on the weekend and the creation of a planned activity for students. Those who sign up for credit will also need to register for the seminar, but the registration fee for the LHPS is waived. Feel free to contact Dianne Blankenship at bennaid@hotmail.com with questions.
